How beautiful are our vines in this month of March, all freshly pruned ! 🍇
With the arrival of spring, the vines of Mas Jau were plowed every other row. Properly carried out, this mechanical weeding limits competition between the grass and the vines, in terms of water and nutrients in the soil.
What is grassing ?
The grassing of the soil consists of planting a plant cover between the rows of vines.
It is carried out during the winter, during the vegetative rest of the vine. It allows several actions on the floor :
- To hold it in case of heavy rains, thus limiting erosion.
- To improve its structure (porosity, permeability).
- To increase their biological life because soils are a source of organic matter.
This technique therefore represents a significant asset for biodiversity and offers a real range of services for the environment.
Even if the vines are still bare, the ground is covered with pretty yellow flowers with a bucolic accent.
